In Victoria Square in the centre of Aberdare stands a statue of Caradog. Designed by the world-famous sculptor Sir William Goscombe John, known as ‘The National Sculptor of Wales’, the statue was erected in 1920. It depicts Caradog conducting his choir with a Baton in his hand. Perched behind him is his violin.
The inscription on the statue reads:
Today there are numerous locations around the Aberdare area that still bear Caradog’s legacy. His name is now borrowed by such places as the housing estate named Caradog Park and Caradog Primary School to name but a few.
Aberdare lies about 23 miles north of Cardiff along the A470 and the A4059, at the top end of the Cynon Valley. There is a map of the statue’s location to the right. However if you’re in the area, there are plenty of other sights to see.
See below for details of the location of the statue.
